NTK Cutting Tools is a division of NTK Technical Ceramics who are part of the mighty NGK Spark Plugs Corporation
of Japan. 

Based in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, the Company has a long and progressive history of technical excellence and product development with the result that NTK are recognised as a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced cutting tools.

Ceramics have always been the core of our business which has led through painstaking research of other materials to the development of new types of cutting tools to meet metalworking applications. One of our latest developments is Poly-Crystalline Diamond which brings a new and cost-effective dimension to high speed cutting of aluminium alloy materials.

The range of NTK SS tools for cut-off are available with widths of 3mm or less. They can meet all sorts of cut-off operations especially for
small parts.

  • Indexable insert toolholders for cut-off applications with shank sizes ranging from 8mm to 25mm, which eliminated re-griding.
  • Can be adjusted for almost all CNC automatic lathes or small type CNC lathes.
    The shape of tools are selectable for gang tooling type tool post or turret type tool post.
  • The cut-off widths range from 0.7mm to 3.0mm.
  • The shape of the cutting edge keeps the centre boss to a minimum.
    The larger lead angle of the cutting edge, sharp corner radius, and precise centre position control eliminates the centre boss.
  • Micro grain carbides KM3, ZM3, QM3 and VM1, which provide both excellent sharp cutting performance and toughness, are used. These materials guarantee stable and long tool life.

NTK SS tool series, TB tools, for back turning with indexable inserts can replace the conventional brazed tool which were popular for automatic lathes and Swiss type screw machine.

  • Shank size from 8mm to 25mm
  • Can be adjusted for almost all CNC automatic lathes or small type CNC lathes.
    The shape of tools are selectable for gang tooling type tool post or turret type tool post.
  • Clamping of inserts assures rigidity especially when deep cutting is desired.
  • The insert grade type is selected from micro grain barbides KM3, ZM3, VM1, and cermet which ensure both sharp cutting performance and toughness.
    KM3, ZM3 or VM1 are applicable for machining that requires a sharp cutting.
    Cermet grade offers high speed cutting performance and excellent surface finish.

With NTK SS tool series tooling system for grooving, a variety of toolholder shank sizes, insert shapes and groove widths suitable for automatic CNC lathes are available. They can be used for a wide range of grooving operations for small parts.

  • Shank size from size 8mm to 25mm
  • Can be adjusted for almost all CNC automatic lathes or small type CNC lathes.
    The shape of tools are selectable for gang tooling type tool post or turret type tool post.
  • Available in a variety of groove widths.
    The groove width can be selected form 0.3mm to 3.0mm
  • Grooving inserts ensure low cutting resistance with little chatter.
    Chipbreaker rake angle 20° (cermet grade: 8°)
  • The insert grade type is selected from micro grain carbides KM3 and ZM3 which ensure both sharp cutting performance and toughness.
    KM3 or ZM3 are applicable for machining that requires sharp cutting.
    Cermet grade offers high speed cutting performance and excellent surface finish.

With NTK SS tool series tooling system for front turning, a variety of toolholder shank sizes and insert shapes suitable for automatic CNC lathes are available. These tools can be applied to a wide range of external turning operations for small parts.

  • Indexable insert toolholders for front turning applications with shank sizes from 8mm to 16mm, which eliminates re-grinding.
  • Can be adjusted for almost all CNC automatic lathes or small type CNC lathes.
    The shape of tools are selectable for gang tooling type tool post or turret type tool post.
  • A variety of insert geometries are available.
    Inserts with flat edge (TFT, TFD inserts), those for deep cutting with highly rigidity (TF inserts), those for sharp corners, etc. are available.
  • Various types of chipbreakers are available.
    Both ground chipbreaker which ensures sharpness of cutting edge and molded chipbreaker which offers large area for cutting chip disposal is available.
  • The insert grade type is selected from micro grain carbide KM3, ZM3, VM1, and cermet which ensure both sharp cutting performance and toughness.
    KM3 or ZM3 are applicable for machining that requires sharp cutting.

NTK SS tools for boring include small bore tools with a minimum machining diameter of 5mm, boring tools which enable machining from the back of the inner diameter, tools for inner grooving, and this for threading. These utilise indexable inserted tools which meet a variety or requirements in the boring operations for small parts.

  • Indexable insert boring bars for machining inner diameter of 10mm or less
    (minimum machining diameter: 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, etc). 
  • Various extra hard shank that have excellent durability against chatter for machining of small internal diameter or large overhanging lengths are prepared.
  • An indexable inserted boring bar is available for machining a step inside an internal bore.
  • 75° and 80° rhombic inserts with high point strength and triangular inserts with three cutting edges are available.
  • The insert material type is selected from micro grain carbides, ZM3 and KM3, which ensures both sharp cutting performance and toughness. Cermet material offers high speed cutting performance and excellent surface finishes.
  • Two types of chipbreakers are available; a ground chipbreaker which ensures excellent cutting performance and a molded chipbreaker which offers a large area for cutting chip disposal. A chipbreaker with which chip control are discharged in the forward direction is
    also available.

  • The use of ZM3 as the standard insert material supports high speed cutting. Cutting speeds three to five times higher than high-speed steel end mills can be achieved.
  • Right angle corner milling is made possible with REZ type.
  • Finishing surface roughness will be improved. 5umRzjis for conventional type and 1imRzjis for the inserts with a wiper are possible.
  • In addition to the D cut, grooving or inclined machining can be done by inserting the central blade.
